A frappe (pronounced frap-pay) is an iced beverage that has been thoroughly blended or shaken to produce a foamy, icy drink. Traditionally made with coffee, milk, sugar and ice but can be made with teas, syrups and juices as well.
This recipe is made to be easy and delicious, with just a few simple ingredients like cooled coffee, frozen banana, almond milk, almond butter, hemp hearts and ice.
This irresistible drink tastes just like the one you get from your favourite coffee shop. However, it’s far less processed and less expensive.

How To Make A Blended Coffee Frappe
This blended coffee frappe is so easy to make and completely customizable. It’s got fibre, vitamins and protein – it’s a healthy upgrade from your regular cup of Joe. I like to have mine first thing in the morning or at lunch for that mid-day boost.
Cooled coffee – The stronger brew the better here, since you are adding in other ingredients you don’t want the coffee flavour and effects to get diluted. Any type is roast is fine, I like medium, but feel free to use what you have. It’s best when the coffee is chilled, if you don’t have the time, no worries, just be ready to add more ice and milk to the recipe.
Frozen Banana – They lend a creamy texture and the right amount of sweetness. The more ripe the banana, the sweeter the taste. Unfortunately, fresh isn’t best here, since we are looking for that blended ice consistency.
Almond Milk – The perfect base for any frappe is milk. It is creamy and smooth and allows for perfect blending. Almond milk is great because it’s not overpowering and it compliments the other flavours used well. I love using unsweetened versions, but sweetened and even vanilla ones will work well too.
Almond Butter – For even more creaminess, almond butter is a must. Also adds a healthy dose of protein, fibre and those good for you fats to help keep you full. If you don’t have any, you can sub peanut butter or even tahini would be delicious.
Hemp seeds – To really bulk this frappe up, I love adding in hemp seeds. Not only do they provide extra fibre and protein but are virtually undetectable to taste.
Optional additions – Topping the frappe with cinnamon, whipped cream or crushed chocolate-coated coffee beans are great ways to give it that coffee shop vibe.
Optional sweetener – If you find the frappe just isn’t sweet enough for you, feel free to add your own. I recommend starting with 1 tsp of either maple syrup or honey and adding as needed.
