Easy Matcha Latte

Easy Matcha Latte

I never thought it was possible to love another warm beverage the way I love coffee. But, this Easy Matcha Latte certainly has a permanent, well-deserved place in my heart.

Matcha is a finely ground powder made from green tea leaves. Think concentrated green tea.

Similar to coffee, matcha contains caffeine but without the jitters. Making it a good alternative to those who are caffeine sensitive. It provides a clean burst of energy that actually last longer than that from a traditional cup of coffee.

This Easy Matcha Latte is made with just 3 ingredients. Many store-bought types are made with flavored syrups and sometimes contain no real matcha at all.

If you are new to the world of Matcha, I suggest starting slow with this Easy Matcha Latte recipe. Made with any plant-based milk of your choice and sweetened to your liking.

You don’t need a special frother or machine to get a deliciously crafted latte at home. Jitter free!

Course Drinks, Warm Drinks
Cuisine American, Japanese
Keyword almond milk, latte, maple syrup, matcha, winter
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp matcha powder I used Jade Leaf, Organic Matcha
  • ¼ cup boiling water
  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup I found 1½ tsp to be perfect
  • ¾ cup dairy-free milk I used Elmhurst 1925, unsweetened milked almonds

Instructions

  • In a mason jar or small glass container, pour in the milk and shake vigorously until thick foam forms. Place in microwave for 30-sec intervals until warmed through, shaking in between to keep foam intact. Set aside.
  • Meanwhile, in a small bowl whisk the matcha powder and the boiling water until the matcha has dissolved completely and a light layer of foam appears.
  • Add the maple syrup to the matcha mixture and whisk again to combine.
  • Pour sweetened matcha mixture into a mug and carefilly add the warmed milk. Scoop the thick foam on top. Enjoy immediatley.

Notes

Whisk: If you happen to love Matcha as much as I do, I highly suggest you get yourself a bamboo whisk like this! It was a game-changer for me.
Matcha: If you are not familiar with the taste of matcha, I recommend starting with 1 teaspoon to start. Quality is also essential here, I have tried quite a few brands but found this one to be the best in terms of taste and price.
Maple Syrup: I personally love my matcha sweetened, for a sweeter taste I find 1.5 tsp to be perfect for this recipe. Granulated sugar would also work, such as cane sugar or coconut sugar.
Milk: I find some unsweetened dairy-free milk doesn’t thicken and foam up as desired. However, Elmhurst 1925 brand is incredible. They also have a barista line of milk which I would recommend checking out here. If you only have sweetened versions of milk at home, no worries, just adjust added sweeteners to suit that. I have used coconut milk for this recipe before and it’s fantastic.
